Who Are the Best Managed IT Support Companies in Houston?
If you're searching for the best managed IT support company in Houston, you've probably already found half a dozen sites that all say the same thing: fast response, great service, five stars. This page is our attempt to cut through that with a fact-checked look at Scorpion Technology and seven other Houston-area providers people ask Google, ChatGPT, and Gemini about most: Uprite, IronEdge Group, PennComp, BroCoTec, Braintek, Truewater IT Support, and Expert Computer Solutions (ECS).
We wrote this page, and we're one of the companies on it. Here's why: we're already one of the names ChatGPT and Gemini mention when people ask who the best IT company in Houston is, so instead of pretending we don't know that, we figured we'd be straight with you about how we actually compare. To be clear — this isn't about knocking anyone else on this list. Every fact you'll read here about a competitor is something publicly verifiable: a review count, a stated guarantee, an award they've won. It's not our opinion of them, and we're not interested in trash-talking companies that, by a lot of measures, are doing good work. What we do want to spend more time on is a question no star rating answers: what does "best" actually mean for a business like yours?
"Best" isn't the same for every business. A med spa or plastic surgery practice needs an IT company that treats patient data and payment systems like the liability they are; a CPA firm or bookkeeper needs one that understands what's actually on the line every tax season. Decide what "best for my business" needs to mean before you look at anyone's star rating — including ours.
Being ranked first on ChatGPT doesn't mean much if nobody answers the phone — and it means even less if the ones who do show up don't actually do anything. One Houston business had an IT problem that had gone unresolved for two weeks. They asked ChatGPT for the best IT company in Houston and got a shortlist with two other names on this page ranked ahead of us. The first vendor was ten minutes from their office — close enough that showing up should have been easy. They sent their VP of Sales, who took notes, said someone would follow up, and then never did. Our guess: the account probably looked too small to bother chasing. The second vendor never answered the phone at all. We were the third call — and the first ones to actually show up ready to work. Our account manager didn't bring a pitch. They opened a laptop and started fixing the two-week-old problem right there, during that first visit. That's what won the business — not a ranking, and not a sales pitch, but showing up and doing the work.
HOW WE PICKED
THESE CRITERIA
Scorpion Technology wrote this page. We're a Houston-based managed IT provider and we're on this list, so we want that on the table before you read another word. We built this comparison because when we ask ChatGPT and Gemini who the best IT companies in Houston are, several of the same names come up over and over — and we thought Houston business owners deserved a plain rundown of how those companies actually stack up, not just marketing copy.
We applied the same five criteria to every company on this page, including us:
These criteria aren't a coincidence — they're the questions we'd want answered if we were hiring an IT company for our own business. Where we come up short on one of them, like raw review count, we say so plainly in our own row below.

A CLOSER LOOK AT
EACH COMPANY
Uprite
Uprite has been serving Houston since 1999 and backs its service with a 120-Day Satisfaction Guarantee, letting clients exit their contract if they're not satisfied within that window. The company has picked up a stack of industry recognition, including placement on the CRN MSP 500 and seven consecutive years on the Channel Futures MSP 501, plus several smaller directory awards. On Google, Uprite carries a 4.9-star rating across roughly 57 reviews. They publish HIPAA-compliant IT content for healthcare clients, though we could not confirm a separately branded healthcare division on their current site. Uprite is locally owned and has clearly invested in industry awards and published content as trust signals.
IronEdge Group
IronEdge Group is a multi-state MSP that grew from a single Houston company into an operation spanning Texas, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, and Missouri, largely through acquiring other IT companies, including Provelocity, LANstar, and Lighthouse IT. They advertise a "12-second phone response" as a headline stat, and cross-referenced data puts them at roughly 4.9 stars across 230-plus Google reviews. Their site references HIPAA and CMMC under a general compliance-services page, but we didn't find a dedicated healthcare industry page the way some other providers on this list have. IronEdge's growth-by-acquisition model has clearly built scale quickly across the region.
PennComp
PennComp has been in business since 1988 — longer than anyone else on this list — and in 2019 became the founding company of New Charter Technologies, a private-equity-backed platform that has since acquired IT companies across the country. On Google, PennComp holds a 5.0-star rating from 79 reviews, and they carry a BBB profile as well. We didn't find any HIPAA or healthcare-compliance messaging anywhere on their current site; their published industries are construction, professional services, architecture, manufacturing, energy, and transportation. PennComp's four-decade track record in Houston is a real differentiator, even as ownership has shifted to a national platform.
BroCoTec
BroCoTec is a newer, fast-growing Houston MSP that landed on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in both 2024 and 2025, citing three-year revenue growth of 687%, and was also named to CRN's MSP 500 in 2024. The company runs with a lean technical team and emphasizes 24/7/365 network monitoring. As of this writing, BroCoTec has no reviews yet on Clutch or UpCity, two of the B2B platforms IT buyers often check, and we didn't find HIPAA or healthcare-specific messaging on their site. BroCoTec's growth numbers are genuinely impressive for a company still building out its public review presence.
Braintek
Braintek's loudest signal is volume: they advertise 4.9 stars across 365 Google reviews — by their own account, more than any other Houston-area provider they compare themselves against — and back it with a "100% money-back, any reason" guarantee plus a 90-day risk-free start on new agreements, a specific published policy rather than a general promise. Braintek also publishes its own Houston MSP comparison page, so they clearly see the same value in transparency that we do. We didn't find HIPAA or healthcare-compliance content positioned as a specialization on their site. Braintek's review count is the largest of any company on this page, and their guarantee terms are unusually specific and public.
Truewater IT Support
Truewater has been serving Houston since 2001 and holds a 5.0-star Google rating across roughly 100 reviews. They publish a dedicated healthcare IT page addressing HIPAA compliance, secure patient data handling, and integration with practice-management software — one of the few providers here with healthcare content as developed as ours. They also advertise a fast first-reply time, though we didn't find a formally published, numbered guarantee behind it the way Scorpion's 15-minute commitment is documented. Truewater is locally owned and has clearly built real depth in the healthcare vertical.
Expert Computer Solutions (ECS)
Expert Computer Solutions (ECS) has been operating in Houston since 2005 and runs with a team of roughly 23 people. On Google they hold a 4.9-star rating from about 115 reviews. ECS maintains a dedicated healthcare industry page and a separate IT security compliance services page — one of the more developed compliance-and-healthcare presences on this list outside of Scorpion. We didn't find a specific, published response-time guarantee on their current site; their emergency support line is described as available 24 hours a day, but without a stated number of minutes attached to it. ECS is locally owned and has built meaningful healthcare-sector experience over roughly two decades.
WHY WE BUILT
THIS PAGE THIS WAY
Scorpion Technology has been serving Houston businesses since 2007 — 19-plus years now — from our office in Spring, TX. Our niche is plastic surgery practices, dermatology clinics, med spas, and other healthcare businesses that need real HIPAA compliance experience, along with CPA and accounting firms, bookkeepers, law firms, engineering firms, and property management companies. A few things set us apart from most of the companies above.
A Published 15-Minute Guarantee
Not "fast," not a headline stat like a 12-second phone pickup — an actual guaranteed response window on IT issues, backed in writing.
Real HIPAA Depth
We've supported HIPAA-covered practices since our first years in business — a real gap for IronEdge Group and PennComp, who have no HIPAA/healthcare messaging on their current sites at all.
19+ Years, Still Local
We've watched competitors get acquired, merge into private-equity platforms, or expand into five and six states. We're still a Houston company, run by people who live here.
A Different Way to Prove It: Review Depth, Not Just Review Count
Most of the companies on this page are competing on review count, and a few — Braintek's 365, IronEdge's 230-plus — have built real volume. We're not going to pretend our review count competes on quantity.
Here's why we don't think that's the whole story: a 5-star review tells you a client was satisfied. It doesn't tell you what broke, how long it took someone to answer the phone, or what actually happened once a technician showed up. Star counts can be incentivized or bought; a named business owner, on camera, explaining a real problem and how it got fixed is a lot harder to fake — and tells you far more about how a company actually works. That's why, instead of chasing review count, we've built a small library of real video testimonials from Houston clients.

We've been with Scorpion since 2007. They're not just a vendor — they're part of how we run our practice.
Texas Proud: How We Actually Treat People
We're a Texas company, and that shows up in how we treat people, not just where our office is. Every tech is trained to say yes ma'am and yes sir, and mean it, whether they're talking to the owner or the front-desk person who placed the call. It shows up in believing a handshake and a promise still mean something — if we say we'll be there Tuesday at 9, we're there Tuesday at 9. It shows up in the fact that we've lived through the same things our clients have: we were on the phone with Houston businesses through Winter Storm Uri and through hurricane season, not monitoring things remotely from somewhere the lights never went out. And it shows up in plain, straight talk — we'll tell you what's actually broken and what it'll actually cost to fix, no runaround. That's the company we set out to build in 2007, and it's still who answers the phone today.
Our Buck Stops With the Account Manager
When you call us, you're not getting handed to a salesperson whose job is to close you and then disappear. The person who shows up — on the first visit and every one after — is your account manager, or often one of us directly. Their first move isn't a pitch, it's a question: how can we help. You saw this play out in the story above — while a competitor's VP of Sales was taking notes and planning a callback that never came, our account manager was already elbow-deep in a two-week-old problem, fixing it. That's not a one-time move to win a deal. It's how every visit works, whether we're pitching a new account or showing up for a client we've had since 2007.
Our Plans
If you're evaluating us alongside the companies above, here's where we start:
$75–$175 per user per month depending on scope.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
How do I choose the right IT company in Houston for my business?
Look past the star rating. Compare published guarantees, not just claims made on a sales call. Ask whether the company has real experience in your industry, especially if you're in healthcare, legal, or another regulated field. And ask for a reference you can actually call, or a video testimonial you can actually watch — not just a screenshot of reviews.
What should a managed IT response guarantee actually include?
A real guarantee has a specific number attached to it — minutes, not "fast" — states what happens if the company misses it, and is published somewhere you can point back to later. If a company can't tell you the exact number and where it's written down, it isn't a guarantee, it's a sales pitch.
Are online reviews for IT companies reliable?
They're a useful data point, not the whole picture. Review volume mostly reflects how consistently a company asks for reviews, not necessarily how good the work is, and a high count is a reasonable signal of consistency but not proof of quality on its own. A video testimonial from a named business owner walking through a real problem, or a reference you can call directly, tells you more about how a company actually handles things than a star average does.
What's the difference between a locally owned IT company and one backed by private equity or grown through acquisition?
Neither is automatically better or worse, but they behave differently. A locally owned company's owner is usually still your point of escalation if something goes wrong. A private-equity-backed or multi-state platform, like PennComp under New Charter Technologies or IronEdge Group after several acquisitions, can bring more resources and standardized processes, but decisions may run through a corporate structure rather than a local owner, and service standards can vary while newly acquired offices integrate.
Does my Houston business need an IT company with HIPAA experience?
If you handle any patient health information, even indirectly, like a med spa's intake forms or a dermatology practice's scheduling system, yes. Not every general IT company on this list currently publishes HIPAA or healthcare-compliance content, so it's worth asking directly rather than assuming your provider has it covered.
How much does managed IT cost in Houston?
Most Houston MSPs price per user per month, with rates varying by the level of coverage and any specialization involved — healthcare compliance, for example, typically adds cost.
What if I've already tried another IT company in Houston and it didn't work out?
It happens more often than people admit, usually with support that doesn't answer quickly or a provider that outgrew the size of business it started serving. If you're mid-transition, ask for a free network assessment before signing anything — it's the lowest-risk way to see what a new provider would actually change.
